Improving Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in Bo District Schools

PEACE staff and interns recently conducted a comprehensive hygiene promotion campaign in schools across Bo District to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to creating healthier learning environments for children in Sierra Leone.

Project Details

The WASH promotion campaign targeted 20 schools across Bo District, focusing on:

  • Education about proper handwashing techniques
  • Promotion of safe sanitation practices
  • Food hygiene education
  • Distribution of hygiene kits including soap, hand sanitizer, and sanitary pads

Impact

Through this initiative, we've reached over 5,000 students and 200 teachers, significantly improving hygiene practices in the targeted schools. The distribution of hygiene kits has ensured that students have the necessary tools to maintain proper hygiene.

Future Plans

We plan to expand this program to additional schools in the region and establish sustainable WASH committees comprising teachers, students, and community members to ensure long-term impact.
